Smarter Managed Buildings Attend Exciting Trend IQ 5 Launch 


Just reflecting back on a fantastic 2 days of team building and continuous improvement at Smarter Managed Buildings, with our 2 day visit to London, attending the Smart Buildings Show and culminating with the highly anticipated Trend Control Systems IQ5 launch.

SMB Supports Local Brass Band at the Royal Albert Hall - London

Smarter Managed Buildings were proud to offer some support to one of our local community brass bands, the Ratby Co-operative Brass Band, with their attendance at the National Brass Band Finals, held in the Royal Albert Hall on the 21 October 2023.


The Ratby band were supporting the Midlands region at the national musical competition, after being awarded second place in the regional midlands qualifying competition earlier in the year.


The competition sees 20 of the top bands across Great Britain, complete for the glory of being the National Champions.


Whilst Ratby did not make it to the top prize, they pulled of a credible performance on stage.

Artist Impressions of our Latest Project at the QMC 


Take a look at the first artist impressions of the new 24-bed Geriactric Assessment Unit for the elderly at the QMC - Nottingham.


We are progressing well with the project, where we are providing a Building Management System for the scheme. The novel integrated multi platform BMS user interface solution, utilsing Schneider Electric EcoStruxure and Trend IQ Vision graphical user interfaces, offering flexability for the engineering team.

SMB Completes Trend BMS Upgrade to Derby County Pride Park Stadium

We have been busy working directly for Derby County Football Club with the Pride Park Stadium wide upgrade of their existing Trend building and energy management system.

Smarter Manged Buildings have upgraded all existing control panels, including an IQ Vision web based graphical user interface.

We are just coming to the completion of the project, where we are making final tweeks and enhancements to complement the stadium operation.

We have created a flexible feature for the facilities management team to manage the system on match days and also to integrate to the hospitality area systems, to help DCFC to enhance the hospitality customer experience.

SMB Supports LOROS - Great Wall of China Trek in October 2024

LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay. LOROS deliver free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers.

Smarter Managed Buildings are proud to be able to support one of our business partners, Peter Schofield, who will be taking part in the LOROS Great Wall of China Trek 2024, hiking some 36km along the magnificent man-made structure. This will take you over watch towers, mountains and through historic battlement stations that are well off the tourist trail. Peter is aiming to provide over £3,000.00 of fundraising for the organistation.

Exciting and Busy First Quarter in Healthcare Sector

It has been an exciting and busy first quarter at Smarter Managed Buildings with our Healthcare sector customers and projects.


We continue to deliver multiple projects and services for the NUH Queens Medical Centre, with near completion of the GAU Ward facility and securing a number of new projects, keeping us busy throughout the next 12 months. 


These include projects for the major MNR project - New Maternity and Neonatel Redesign Programme, Thrombectomy, Foetal Medicine, Treatment Centre and a number of other schemes and support services direct for the Trust.


We are uniquely placed with our wealth of in house technical expertise and partnerships, to deliver both Trend and Schneider systems, to support the specific needs of the Trust Estate. 


We are also pleased to have secured projects at Glenfield Hospital - New Ward 15A, Birmingham City Hospital New Pharmacy and Derby Florence Nightingale Community Diagnostic Centre, with a mixture of Trend and Schneider based systems. 


Always feels special to be working within the NHS and playing our small part to help improve services.

Welcome to our newest member of the team, Tom Barham, who has joined us as a Trainee Commissioning Engineer.


Tom has recently graduated from Nottingham Trent University, where he has completed a degree in Sports Science and Business Management.

Exciting Projects @ QMC for Nottingham University Hospitals

Busy day on site at QMC today visiting several of our live projects to review progress and planning.

Great to see the progress of our major MNR project, where we have our BMS control panels already installed in the roof plantroom and the ward areas are in the final phase of BMS electrical installation, with all our software and graphics prepped and ready for commissioning.

SMB Completes Laboratory Facility for Nottingham Trent University

It’s been a very busy summer for Smarter Managed Buildings and immensely proud of the dedication and technical ability of our team, to deliver a complex laboratory facility control system, for the Nottingham Trent University, at their Clifton Campus.

The Trend system provides close pressure and temperature control to the two storey lab facility including fume cupboard extract, via a combination of central air handling plant, vav and comfort heating/cooling fan coil systems.

SMB have also completed a further project for NTU, at the Brakenhurst campus, with a major refurbishment of their historic Main Hall, for a new conferencing facility.

Take a look at our latest completed project at the Queens Medical Centre

Fantastic and rewarding to have the chance to visit the recently completed £9.8M new dementia friendly Geriactric Assessment Unit at the QMC in Nottingham, for a post handover review of our installation.

Smarter Managed Buildings designed and installed a Schneider Electric EcoStruxure building management system for the GAU, which is an impressive new 24 bed and 4 en-suite isolation ward facility.

Project News

SMB are delivering a comprehensive energy saving scheme for a major sports stadium in Leicester.   


The Trend scheme includes the installation of inverters for the stadium air handling units and implementation of a unique two stage automatic energy saving control strategy, developed specifically by Smarter Managed Buildings to complement the specific stadium operations for both match/non match days.


The scheme also includes an upgrade of all control panels from fuses to MCBs throughout the stadium

As part of the strategic upgrade of the retained estate of the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust - Birmingham City Hospital wider development, Smarter Managed Buildings have been working on an extensive upgrade project to prepare the retained site for the future.

This has included 8 operating theatre and ancillary AHUs and a number of distributed heating and hws plantrooms. Along with this project, we are currently undertaking a number of new capital schemes, for the new Pharmacy, Energy centre estate office re provision and a new VIE (Vacuum insulated evaperator) bulk medical gas storage facility.

As part of the strategic upgrade of the retained estate of the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust - Birmingham City Hospital wider development, Smarter Managed Buildings have been working on an extensive upgrade project to prepare the retained site for the future.

Along with this project, we are currently undertaking a number of new capital schemes, for the new Pharmacy, Energy centre estate office re provision and a new VIE (Vacuum insulated evaperator) bulk medical gas storage facility.
